Free Carpenter Workshop for the Entire Family

August 1, 2018

Maybe I am coming late to the party - BUT - have you all heard of the amazing FREE Carpenter Workshop hosted by your neighborhood Home Depot stores?

They host a ton of different hands on learning Workshops for the DIY'er each weekend however what I want to spend some time bragging on is their family focused kid programs ran about once a month.

Our local Sterling Home Depot located at 46261 Cranston Way Sterling, VA 20165 host them on the 1st Saturday of each month (to be sure double check their website schedule by clicking here). We first stumbled upon this opportunity, last month because we were looking for a fun Daddy Daughter date to occupy our little girl while I stayed home to get some work done. A quick google search of free and local events brought up this opportunity to build a Go Fish game. My husband and I were surprised and skeptical but he agreed to check it out because the potential for fun was definitely there - oh man did it not disappoint!

They simply showed up and saw a large work table set up in the parking lot roped off with over-sized orange Home Depot buckets flipped over as stools. Families large and small just pairs were there working away. Our daughter was given her very own Home Depot apron to keep her clothes clean the wood, nails, hammer, wood glue, paint, spools, string, plastic hook, and foam fishes to get the project done. With everything they needed they got to work and together built a game from scratch.

Julianna was thrilled and enjoyed every minute of this Daddy Daughter Date.

It was easy to see that their were some long time workshop veterans there - as their aprons proudly covered in "gold" completion pins glistened in the sunshine. The whole experience was a pleasant surprise and our little one keeps telling everyone - so I figured it was about time I shared this as well with all of you! SOOOO if you havent been and you have some free time this Saturday go check it out! Check the schedule of workshops at your local Home Depot and get out their making stuff with your kids.

This weekend they are tackling home made "Book worm" book shelves - double awesome - getting the kiddos to work with their hands and another reason to love reading even more.
